Life || Time Flies

Oh me, oh my it’s long past July and August is nearly flown by. Hey, I”m back! Sorry for the cheesy rhyme but it keeps rolling around in my head. Strange things roll around in my brain when I disappear down the rabbit hole. Going into to fire land is a lot like Alice in Wonderland. You go down the rabbit hole and get lost in a completely different world.

In case you were wondering where I’ve been since late June until the end of July I’ve pretty much been bouncing from one wildland fire to the next. They haven’t all been the big fires that you hear about in the media. Most have been smaller 10-20 acre ones that I have been the incident commander of. Being an incident commander type 4 has been my new job this summer. It’s very rewarding and very stressful.

When it comes to fires I’m a very, very bad blogger. I don’t take pictures. Part of it is due to agency policy (kind of a no no due to privacy and other issues), part of it is that my jobs now require a lot of attention and when there is cool stuff to take pictures of I’m usually so busy I forget, and part of it is that I’ve been doing this job long enough that the novelty has worn off when it comes to that. So I forget that people actually like to see what life looks like out there. Whoops!

Fortunately, life is starting to mellow back out. We aren’t working the crazy hours we have been, the insanely hot temperatures of July and early August seem to have tempered (or else I’m adapting which is going to make for a very cold girl this winter!) and it’s getting dark earlier and earlier. Usually I enjoy a bit of summer in between fires but this year I’ve barely had time to even do laundry and shop for groceries. So because of that, I’m ready for fall and getting to spend time back here, sharing adventures on the Tomboy Tales.

Cheers,

Rochelle
